Connecting to increase innovation
With the CAB Crossborder Acceleration Bridge project, during the period 2017–2020, we improved overall opportunities for innovation. By establishing a cross-border business accelerator—a network of key Italian and Slovenian support entities—we increased the competitiveness of the cross-border program area between Slovenia and Italy.
Cross-Border Business Accelerator for Smart Specialization Strategies
The cross-border area of Slovenia and Italy faces a common challenge of more effective technology transfer and research results to companies, with the goal of improving innovation capacity in the program area.
The purpose of the CAB project was to create a network of Slovenian and Italian entities that would design, test, and begin long-term use of a new cross-border business acceleration service. This service would promote investment in the development of innovative products/services and facilitate technology transfer from research centers to companies.
With the project, we aimed to achieve a change: enabling more small and medium-sized enterprises to take advantage of opportunities for collaboration with research and development centers and, through the new service offered by the cross-border business accelerator, expand their business on the international market.

With the CAB project, we aimed to enable small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the field of advanced technologies to take advantage of opportunities for collaboration with research and development centers and, through the established services, increase their business volume in the international market.
How does it work?
The cross-border business accelerator of the CAB project had a key feature: it enabled start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises to discover opportunities to operate beyond their own market boundaries and to overcome cultural differences and differences in business practices between Slovenia and Italy.
